It’s been a busy few months for the team of the Fairmount Group. We’ve been all over the country, and all over Ohio working on a wide variety of issues that matter to us. Want to know more? Here’s a summary!
To kick off the spring, we facilitated discussion groups and messaging trainings focusing on later abortion care with a goal of helping abortion providers and advocacy groups learn to talk about the best way to convey their compassion and love for the patients they serve to the general public. We helped the Mahoning County Democratic Party plant the seeds for the intimidating but important conversations surrounding later abortion care. While incendiary rhetoric and violent imagery were working the country into a frenzy over nonexistent practices, we traveled to Chicago to help abortion providers and advocates practice pivoting away from ridiculous anti-choice talking points to more important conversations about our values around reproductive freedom.

In May, we welcomed Communications Intern Zachary Nosanchuk, an incoming sophomore at the George Washington University majoring in political communications and resident of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Zachary jumped right in and helped with the final preparations for Pride in the CLE 2019. Together with the staff, volunteers, and board of the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, Pride in the CLE 2019 was the best Pride in Cleveland’s history, attracting more than 30,000 attendees, 90+ vendors, and hundreds of volunteers. Online engagement was off the charts this year too, a sign that there’s never enough Pride for Cleveland. We’re especially proud that through all of the planning and preparation work that went into the festival, we never lost sight of Pride’s roots: this Stonewall Riots. This year was the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, which we honored with a march of protest and a theme of resistance. Have we mentioned we love resistance?

Moving on since Pride in the CLE, the Fairmount Group has continued to support the ever-expanding communications and public relations for the LGBT Community Center, hosting their Grand Opening and Community Celebration in their beautiful new facility.

We also continued our work with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health’s 216Teens program with some in-depth training on social media, digital outreach, web development, and data analysis.

We’re helping change the world by electing leaders who share our values, too! We’ve worked with the Cleveland Heights Democrats, helping them plan events and canvasses as well as their social media presence. In addition to local clubs, we’re helping Democratic candidates at all levels jumpstart their campaigns and build their messaging toolbox around abortion and women’s issues.

We’re partnering with a new organization, the LGBTQ+ Allies of Lake County, to lift up the amazing work they’re doing in a community that is often left behind. We are also proud to continue our work with the Cleveland Metropolitan Schools District, supporting the Safety and Security department with ongoing Functional Excellence work and launching a new program year with the Responsible Sexual Behavior program.
What’s coming next? We have some exciting projects coming up but we have room for yours too! Big or small, we’re ready to talk about your needs and find a solution that works for you.
Onward!
